What is happening with some people?
Which Christian denomination has no ministries dedicated to the poor or has never provided assistance to the needy?
The Scriptures are clear:
“If among you, one of your brothers becomes poor in any of your towns within the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or close your hand against your poor brother. Instead, you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be.”
— Deuteronomy 15:7-8
Furthermore, “Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors Him.”
— Proverbs 14:31
It's essential to remember, “Listen, my beloved brothers: has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom He has promised to those who love Him?”
— James 2:5
And consider this: “If anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?”
— 1 John 3:17
Finally, the King will affirm, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
— Matthew 25:40
Organizations such as Catholic Charities, Bright Hope, Samaritan’s Purse, the Salvation Army, and World Relief stand as powerful testaments to the unwavering commitment of ministries that support the poor.
These extend beyond Christianity, proving that compassion and generosity flourish within other faiths, including Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism.
Ministering to the poor is undeniably at the heart of Christianity and every major religion.
Therefore, we must reject any notion of violence against the poor.
Instead, we should resolutely continue to follow scriptural commands, minister to the poor and the needy, show compassion for the less fortunate, and lend a helping hand whenever possible.
