She was a dedicated individual who served as a Sunday school teacher, a mother of two, an attorney, and the State Speaker of the House.

Tragically, she and her husband were assassinated in a senseless act of political violence and cowardice.

The perpetrator was a coward driven by ignorance and acted out of hatred, failing to represent the people or offer constructive solutions—only criticism and hate.

Progress cannot be achieved through lies, slander, and negativity. 

True advancement requires positive actions and constructive solutions.

Regardless of individual political beliefs, the creation of laws and guiding principles is a process that transcends mere political identity. 

Therefore, despite any existing discord, progress can only be made by addressing issues with wise policies and engaging in respectful discourse.

Rest in peace, Melissa Anne Hortman—a wise leader, a problem solver, a dedicated public servant, and a true American patriot.
