In Taoist philosophy, the concept of yin and yang represents the balance and harmony of opposing forces.
These forces are not separate; rather, they are interconnected, similar to the various political parties—primarily the Democratic and Republican parties—operating within a unified system of governance defined by the framework of the Constitution.
When functioning properly, these two parties balance each other, combining their perspectives to create effective policies and practices.
🔍
Let’s examine the traditional beliefs of each party:
The Republican Party traditionally emphasizes individual freedom, limited government intervention, a free-market economy, fiscal responsibility, and a strong national defense.
In contrast, the Democratic Party aims to promote free trade, support social programs, advocate for labor unions, ensure consumer protection, implement workplace safety regulations, uphold equal opportunity, champion disability rights, pursue racial equity, establish regulations against environmental pollution, and reform the criminal justice system.
These beliefs are not mutually exclusive; when functioning effectively, they complement one another and address a wide range of societal issues. The primary differences lie in the priorities each party emphasizes.
By addressing certain issues first, it does not mean that we can ignore others that may arise later. Total dysfunction occurs when one or both parties operate without mutual interest and respect, straying from the framework that enables the system to function.
Further dangers arise when the system's checks and balances fail, undermining the balance of power among the three branches of government.
Failures also occur when governing systems overlook the fact that there is no yin without yang. This imbalance can lead to a collapse of the system, resulting in dystopian outcomes.
Before we continue to point fingers and assign blame, we need to step back and understand the broader perspective of the function—or dysfunction—at play within the system and the complexities involved.
Why is there such an imbalance and disconnect from the core values and functions of the system? Who is abdicating responsibility, contributing to this dysfunction, or failing to understand their actual roles?
Let us work together to create a better world before we wreck it beyond recognition.
Let us focus on improving ourselves as individuals before we destroy our identities, to the point where even Jesus Christ would not recognize us (Matthew 7:21-23).
